Job Overview

The 35M Human Intelligence Collector (HUMINT Collector) is responsible for gathering information from human sources to support Army operations. This role involves conducting interrogations, debriefings, and source operations to collect actionable intelligence. HUMINT Collectors work in a variety of environments, both in the U.S. and overseas, and play a critical role in national security.

Training Required
9-Month Prep Checklist: Job Preparation
  1. Research the 35M MOS and Army life (official Army sites, YouTube, forums)
  2. Contact a recruiter and ask about the 35M process and requirements
  3. Begin background paperwork for security clearance (gather documents, references)
  4. Start a physical fitness routine (see 3-month checklist below)
  5. Read about Army values, ethics, and the importance of integrity in intelligence roles
  6. Practice communication and listening skills
  7. Familiarize yourself with current events and world geography
  8. Consider learning a foreign language (especially Arabic, Farsi, Russian, Chinese, Korean, or Spanish)
  9. Stay drug-free and avoid legal trouble
6-Month Prep Checklist: AIT Training Prep
  1. Review Army study guides (rank structure, general orders, phonetic alphabet)
  2. Practice writing and summarizing information clearly
  3. Study basic map reading and land navigation
  4. Review Army history and customs
  5. Continue physical training: running, push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups
  6. Work on memorization skills (use flashcards, apps)
  7. Stay up to date on current events and military news
  8. Maintain contact with your recruiter and ask about any paperwork or deadlines
3-Month Prep Checklist: Physical & Boot Camp Prep
  1. Follow the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) standards: aim for at least 50 push-ups, 60 sit-ups, and a 2-mile run in under 16 minutes
  2. Practice ruck marching with a loaded backpack (start with 20 lbs, work up to 35 lbs for 4-6 miles)
  3. Get used to early wake-ups and a regular sleep schedule
  4. Break in a pair of running shoes and boots
  5. Practice teamwork and leadership in group activities
  6. Review Army basic knowledge: ranks, chain of command, general orders
  7. Prepare mentally for discipline, structure, and following orders
  8. Double-check all paperwork, ID, and required documents for shipping to BCT
Language Training After AIT

After completing the 20-week Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Huachuca, many 35M Human Intelligence Collectors are selected for additional language training, especially in high-demand languages such as Arabic, Farsi, Chinese, Russian, or Korean.
